A transcendent experience with the T.S.S.O. in the Rotunda
10 June 2017
Two great artists internationally acclaimed, the concermaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra Simos Papanas and the countertenor Nikos Spanos, along with our orchestra and Antonio Vivaldi’s masterpieces, were the elements that composed a wonderful and high emotional program whose influence multiplied inside the imposing Rotunda. So, the feelings were naturally more intense than usual and the audience enjoyed one of the most powerful moments in the recent history of the T.S.S.O..
Each one of Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ surrounded by carefully chosen arias by some of the most beautiful operas that the ‘Red Priest’ has ever composed. So Nikos Spanos and Simos Papanas constantly passed to one another the leading role, while the orchesta provided the proper sound background giving them the opportunity to unfold their rich talent. The sonnets that inspired Vivaldi for his ‘Four seasons’ recited by the actress Christina Mitropoulou. At the end of the first part, Othonas Gogas unleashed with his flute the Alcina’s spells to Ruggiero, from the specific scene of ‘Orlando Furioso’.
The audience responded in this two-hours musical ritual with cheers and a standing ovation.
