Musical journey to the world of cinema 11 November 2017

"I had the pleasure today of listening my work live,
in these ideal conditions, by this amazing orchestra
and this splendid conductor".

Nikos Kypourgos, composer

The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra concert "Cinema Paradiso' that took place in cooperation with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, travelled the audience to the magic world of the cinema, through the wonderful melodies by Manos Hadjidakis (from the 'Sweet Suite' by Nikos Kypourgos), Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone.

In the brimful Friends of Music Hall, scenes from legendary movies, such as ‘Never on Sunday’, ‘America, America’, ‘La vita è bella’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Once upon a time in America’, ‘The Untouchables’ etc. fleshed out in everyone’s minds.

T.S.S.O. was conducted by the Italian maestro Gioele Muglialdo. Thanos Gountanos (guitar, electric guitar), Costantinos Tsougras (accordion) and Stathis Savvidis (mandolin) played as guests.

With the completion of ‘Sweet Suite’, the conductor called the composer on stage where he was enthusiastically applauded by the audience. Nikos Kypourgos, after expressing his thanks, pointed towards the sky professing this applaud belonged to Manos Hadjidakis.

At the end of the concert the maestro stated: “I greet you all! I am rejoiced to conduct this concert with works by Greek and Italian composers and I am very glad that I had the chance to meet this exceptional musician (reffering to Nikos Kypourgos).”

Nikos Kypourgos said in turn: “For me it was very emotional, because this piece has never been played by the T.S.S.O. live before. It has been recorded, but never played in concert. So I had the pleasure today of listening my work live, in these ideal conditions, by this amazing orchestra and this splendid conductor, with whom I have already formed a friendship.”
