Cinema Paradiso

Film music by Greek and Italian composers

In 2006, Nikos Kypourgos composed a homage to Manos Hadjidakis, entitled ‘Sweet Suite’, based on themes by the great composer’s music for nine of the almost total seventy-five films that constitute his film music oeuvre. The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra recorded the ‘Sweet Suite’ along with another work by Kypourgos, the ‘Film Suite No.1’, in an interesting CD released by EMI Classics. The program of the concert continues with film music by two great Italian composers, Nino Rota and Enio Moricone, whose music sealed classical cinema masterpieces, such as The Godfather, La dolce vita, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, The Untouchables etc
