Thessaloniki sends its orchestra with positive energy to Vienna
10 September 2025
The Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra began the new artistic season 2025-26 by presenting at its headquarters a large part of the rich program with which it will appear on Sunday 14/9 in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna and the people of Thessaloniki gave their orchestra all their positive energy, for this historic concert, with their large attendance and their warm applause at the end of each work.
The program began with the Greek melodies of the Dodecanese Suite No. 1 by Yannis Konstantinidis and was followed by Tchaikovsky's 'Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 33', with the amazing performance of the multi-talented Austrian cellist Jeremias Fliedl, who was adored by the audience.
Jeremias expressed his gratitude, saying that it was his first time in Greece and that he was grateful for the warmth with which the people of Thessaloniki welcomed him, giving them a piece of Bach as an encore.
In the second part, the TSSO, under the musical direction of the legendary conductor Thomas Sanderling, performed Shostakovich's special Ninth Symphony, honoring the 50th anniversary of his death with a close collaborator and friend of the leading composer, who had distinguished himself from the first moment he saw the then young Thomas Sanderling and subsequently entrusted him with the premieres of his 13th and 14th symphonies.
The concert was honored with his presence by the Deputy Minister of Culture, responsible for Contemporary Culture, Mr. Iasonas Fotilas
