"I believe that today Roland sent us his blessings
and his love from somewhere up there!"

Elena Papandreou, guitarist

Another unforgettable musical experience was offered to all music lovers by Elena Papandreou and her guitar, during T.S.S.O.’s concert that took place the day before yesterday, in cooperation with Thessaloniki Concert Hall. Her rendition of the wonderful and utterly demanding ‘Concerto Métis’ by Roland Dyens was sensational, which led to her justifiable applaud by the audience at the end of the concert, who also called her bis. The fact that the great French guitarist and composer Roland Dyens, who recently passed away, had also been a close friend of Elena Papandreou, only added to the significance of her performance. It is worth noting that the composer’s sister was also present at the concert.

The evening started with the world premiere of the third piece of the series ‘Resonances’ Giorgos Kyriakakis, who was called onstage by the maestro at the end to be applauded by the audience. During the second part, the orchestra shined with De Falla’s wonderful works under Stefanos Tsialis’ conduction and the Friends of Music Hall was filled with passion and brio of Spanish music.

At the end of the night the protagonists were constantly receiving congratulations by the people.

Giorgos Kyriakakis stated about the premiere of his piece: “T.S.S.O. performed my work with exceptional sensibility and energy and I am thankful for that. The Orchestra as a whole conducted by Mr. Tsialis, as well as individuals, all honored my work with a wonderful world premiere. Cooperating with the T.S.S.O. is always a pleasure, due to the widely acclaimed high level of technique and aesthetics, as well as the love with which new works are embraced.”

Elena Papandreou, obviously moved, stated: “This concert will be unforgettable to me! I adore ‘Concerto Metis’ by my dear friend Roland Dyens and I am deeply touched every time I play it, especially as it has been a year since he has unfortunately ceased to be amongst us. And although we have met some significant difficulties during the rehearsals, it all ended up well thanks to the valuable help of the exceptional string musicians of the T.S.S.O. and the conductor Stefanos Tsialis, with whom cooperation was impeccable. But I believe that Roland was sending us his blessings and his love from somewhere up there!”

Finally, the maestro of the night, Stefanos Tsialis, said: “We had a wonderful cooperation with the orchestra, as always. I believed we performed beautifully, with plenty of passion and brio the works by De Falla, who might be Spanish, but we feel him as a Greek, as one of our own. I was also very glad that the concerto with Elena went as well as it did, because it is not an easy piece for the soloist or the orchestra, and in addition I was glad to work with Giorgos Kyriakakis.”
