Ιrresistible combination 27 May 2018

"I feel incredibly honored to have made my debut with the TSSO
in the stunning atmosphere of Rotonda de Galerius"

Georg Köhler, conductor

Last Friday's T.S.S.O. concert in Rotunda was another one very special musical event, as it happened to all our previous concerts there, since the T.S.S.O. and the Rotunda together they actually create an irrestistable combination. The monument filled with the ethereal charm of Debussy's music, in this orchestra's tribute for the one hundred years since his death.

The orchestra conducted by Georg K
öhler and the soloists were three exceptional T.S.S.O. musicians: Othonas Gogas (flute), Alexandros Stavridis (clarinet) and Katerina Gima (harp).

After the end of the concert Georg Köhler said to us: "I feel incredibly honored to have made my debut with the TSSO in the stunning atmosphere of Rotonda de Galerius. I felt instantly welcomed by the musicians as well as the administration and artistic director Zoi Tsokanou. The orchestra greeted me with open hearts and minds and worked with dedication, patience and inspiration. I greatly enjoyed the collaboration and the musical and human contact with the TSSO, in particular with the wonderful soloists of the evening, all permanent musicians of the TSSO, who underlined the high musical level of the orchestra. Furthermore, I was especially curious to premiere three of my own instrumentations of Debussy piano pieces and I feel very pleased and happy about the understanding and skill with which the orchestra performed the arrangements of „La Puerta del Vino“, „Feuilles mortes“ and „Pour les accords“. I want to give special thanks to planning manager Philip Hatzissimou and TSSO librarian Theodora Karamanidou who greatly supported the preparatory for the rehearsals and the concert."

The event was attended by the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Yannis Boutaris, along with the President of the Municipal Council Mr. Kalypso Goula, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Thessaloniki Mr. Walter Stechel and the Debuty Consul General Mrs Anita Englert-Zerbin, as well as representatives of the Thessaloniki Ephorate of Antiquities, representatives of the military authorities and the cultural institutions of our city.
