Summary of the proclamation of the competition to fill three (3) vacant 5th Category (Tutti) First Violin positions for permanent artistic personnel at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra


SUMMARY OF THE DECREE-PROCLAMATION
By the Minister of Culture’s no. 320119/8-10-2025 decree-proclamation (ΦΕΚ 58/τ.ΑΣΕΠ/21-10-2025, Online Publication Number: 9ΟΟΥ46ΝΚΟΤ-00Κ), we are proclaiming a Competition to fill three (3) vacant positions for permanent artistic personnel, 5th Category Musicians (Tutti), as First Violins of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (Public Service under the supervision of the Greek Ministry of Culture), as follows:
Three (3) 5th Category (Tutti) First Violin positions.
Candidates must:
1.           In terms of nationality be:
a)           Greek citizens or
b)           Citizens from Member States of the EU or
c)           Northern Epirotes or Greek Cypriots or expatriates Greeks from Istanbul or from the islands of Imbros (Gökçeada) and Tenedos (Bozcaada), as well as Greek expatriates from Egypt, without the obligation to present a certification of Greek nationality, on the condition that their status as Greeks according to race and their national conscience is proven in other ways (Legislative Decree 3832/1958 – GG 128/A/1958).
d)           Those who acquired Greek citizenship through naturalisation are also eligible to apply.
2.           Be at least 21 years of age, or, in the case of musicians of acknowledged talent, be over the age of 15.
3.           Meet the health and physical condition requirements to exercise the duties of the specific work position, within the meaning of the provisions of Article 1(7) of Law 3528/2007 of the Greek legislation, as it stands.
4.           Not have any hindrance due to criminal conviction or awaiting trial, nor be placed under judicial interdiction or judicial support (Article 1(8) of Law 3528/2007).
The auditions will be held in Thessaloniki in a venue that will be determined with a follow-up announcement by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.
The starting date for the auditions is Thursday, January 8th, 2026.
Candidates of the auditions for the aforementioned vacant artistic personnel positions at the TSSO, are not required to submit diplomas or degrees in their corresponding specialization (instrument) as a professional qualification for the position that they are competing for at the time of their application, however, the possession of a diploma or degree is a prerequisite for the eventual placement of the successful candidates in the permanent positions after their 2-year probation period.
All those wishing to take part in the auditions must, within an exclusive deadline of thirty (30) days from the date of the last publication of this announcement in the daily Press, submit or send their application on the specified form by registered post to the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (2, Pittakou Str., 54645 Thessaloniki, GR).
Application forms, along with a copy of the present proclamation, can be supplied by the Orchestra to anyone interested.
Along with the application form, the candidate must submit their CV and any other information which may best showcase their artistic profile and ability.
In particular, candidates who claim acknowledged exceptional musical talent by filling in the corresponding field on the application form, are required to submit proof justifying their claim.
The aforementioned proof will be validated by the lawfully appointed Audition Committee. After checking the relevant supporting documents of every such candidate, the said Committee will confirm the details which constitute “acknowledged artistic talent” that will permit the candidates to enter the audition.
Failure to submit such paperwork along with the application to take part in the audition will render any subsequent claim of the aforementioned status void.
Audition Repertoire:
According to the decision under the details ΥΠΠΟ/ΚΑΤΕΧΝ/Δ/35836/22-7-1999 (B’ 1604) of the Ministry of Culture, the examination material that constitutes the audition repertoire, according to each instrument and category of artistic personnel, is as follows:
For the Tutti (5th Category) First Violin positions:
a. The first movement (with its Cadenza) from one of the following Concertos:
-WIENIAWSKY Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22
-MENDELSSOHN Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64
-BRUCH Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26
b. The first movement (with its Cadenza) from one of the following MOZART Concertos:
-Violin Concerto No. 3, K. 216, in G major
-Violin Concerto No. 4, K. 218, in D major
-Violin Concerto No. 5, K. 219, in A major
c. Excerpts from Orchestral Works (without the Solos).
The audition and examination of the candidates takes place before the Audition Committee without an audience. Permission to attend the auditions is only granted to musicians of the Orchestra who belong to the same family of instruments as the examined instrument, in accordance with the terms of Article 1(7) of Ministerial Decision no ΥΠΠΟ/ΚΑΤΕΧΝ/35836/22-7-1999.
The number of successful candidates will be the same as the number of vacant positions announced, and the table containing the successful candidate names will be posted on the wall of the Offices and on the Orchestra’s notice board in the presence of two (2) employees. The relevant minutes will also be drafted and then sent to the Human Resources Management Directorate of the Ministry of Culture.
Successful candidates will be asked to submit all legal supporting documents as requested by the Human Resources Management Directorate of the Ministry of Culture via written notice.
The place in which the auditions will be held, as well as every other matter relevant to them will be determined and announced by the Audition Committee. The official announcements will be displayed on the premises of TSSO’s administrative Offices (2, Pittakou str., 54645, Thessaloniki, GREECE, 4th floor), as well as on the Orchestra’s official website (www.tsso.gr).

This decision-announcement will be published in the Government Gazette, and will be posted on the Ministry of Culture website (www.culture.gov.gr) in the field Enimerosi – Epilogi Prosopikou-Prokirixeis [News – Personnel Selection – Announcements], as well as on the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra’s website (www.tsso.gr) and the Diavgeia website (www.et.diavgeia.gov.gr). A summary of this Announcement will also be printed in two (2) daily newspapers, one in Athens and one in Thessaloniki.

We wish to inform you that the submission period for Applications and Supporting Documents for the Auditions held to fill three (3) permanent Artistic Personnel positions at the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (Government Gazette 58/Α.Σ.Ε.Π./21-10-2025)

starts on Thursday the 30th of October 2025
and
ends on Friday, the 28th of November 2025

(candidates who wish to submit their applications and supporting documents via land mail (post) must ensure that their postage slip or Certificate of Mailing is acquired before 28/11/2025 (and submitted via e-mail at info@tsso.gr ),
(candidates who wish to submit their applications and supporting documents at the TSSO’s offices must do so during working days and hours 7:00-15:00)
 
All candidates must submit their Curriculum Vitae along with their application, as well as any other supporting material that may highlight their artistic personality and skills.

All candidates are also required to submit the following:
-A photocopy of their ID card or passport (attached to their application).
