The source of Culture's power
18 February 2025
The mere on-stage union of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonic of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Bulgarian National Philharmonic Choir and three great lyrical singers from these three neighboring countries would be enough to characterize yesterday's concert as historic.
However, yesterday's union of all these leading artists was more than symbolic.
It was essential in the message it conveyed about the power of the union of the forces of all and explosive at the same time, offering a unique result and an unforgettable performance of 'Carmina Burana', which resulted in a universal standing ovation from 3,000 people, inside the packed National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
The concert was attended, among others, by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria with his wife, the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Greek Ambassador in Sofia, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Director of the Cultural Center of North Macedonia, ambassadors from at least 25 countries and many others, while the conductor of the concert and Director of the Sofia Philharmonic, Nayden Todorov, was until last month also the Minister of Culture of Bulgaria.
