A journey from Darkness to Light 15 February 2026

The TSSO concert program on Friday, February 13th was by definition a journey through time, specifically to the year 1945, with three musical masterpieces written that year and faced the approaching end of World War II from a different perspective. Richard Strauss lamented the destruction of German culture, Béla Bartók recalled his homeland shortly before the end in distant America, while Igor Stravinsky revisited his great success 'The Firebird' with a neoclassical perspective, optimistic about a better tomorrow.
However, the series of works also gave the audience the opportunity to take a journey from Darkness to Light, according to the expression of the evening's conductor Leo McFall, while the spotlight was on the amazing Hungarian viola virtuoso Máté Szücs with a fascinating interpretation of Bartók's concerto, restored by Miklós Rakos with the Fibonacci numerical sequence, which gives the work a completely new and interesting perspective.
