Article from the Sunday Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Municipality. 12 May 2026

A large number of journalists from abroad were in Thessaloniki on March 27-28 for the presentation of the new CD of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra ‘Another Dawn’ with the German record company Berlin Classics. In addition to watching the live performance of the TSSO at the presentation of the recording, as well as the unique musical experience they experienced the next day in the Petralona Cave at the ‘Sequenza’ concert, they also had the opportunity to get to know Thessaloniki, its history and its beauties, so that they could now introduce it to the readers of their media in their homelands.
Among them was Rainer Hermann of the leading German newspaper Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung who made an extensive report in the Sunday edition (May 10, 2026) on the city, its history and culture, as well as on the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, highlighting its latest achievements.
Rainer Hermann is one of the most important German journalists and has been FAZ's correspondent for Greece, Turkey and the Middle East for decades. He is considered a leading voice in the German-speaking world on issues of culture, geopolitics and history of the Eastern Mediterranean, with particular influence on German public opinion and cultural policy makers.
