The world premiere of Dai Fujikura's ‘Radiance for orchestra’ 01 November 2026

The world premiere of the new work by Japanese composer Dai Fujikura, ‘Radiance for orchestra’, was held on Saturday 31/10 by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kornilios Michaelides, written after a co-commissioning by the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the 34th Zagreb Music Biennale, the Tokyo and Hiroshima Symphony Orchestras and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. The great contemporary composer, who was present at the concert, wrote a work that is an echo of Beethoven’s world, creating a utopia in which he would like to live and which he invites the listener to visit. Beethoven is present in the work as a catalyst and not as a simple reference.
The other two works on the program were also inspired by Beethoven.
John Adams' 'Absolute Jest' performed by the TSSO together with the magnificent String Quartet of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, consisting of Jason Keramidis (violin), Naoka Aoki (violin), Clément Courtin (viola), Shizuka Mitsui (cello) and the enchanting 'First Symphony' by Johannes Brahms, in a concert prelude to the upcoming Beethoven Year, marking the 200th anniversary of the death of the brilliant composer.
